Bird activity at ENP is in the nesting mode. Cormorants are very successful with many babies running up and down the boardwalk at Anhinga Trail chasing one another to the amusement of all concerned. They are oblivious to the spectators. Great blues are in great numbers. Fledgling Green-backs are very common. Barred owls were chortling in the oak hammock where the old hotel used to be. They began about 5:30PM and put on quite a sound show. Deer were out and about at the same time. At Eco-pond the activity is picking up. The white phase/GBHeron -or whatever it is classified as this week - was very prominent and photographs were easily obtained. The red-shouldered hawk must be nesting in the middle island at EP as there was much coming and going. A large flock of skimmers spent some time at the boat ramps. The American Crocodile was sunning by the boat lift boardwalk. Crowds were small except at Anhinga which was the site of several field trips by schools. Mosquitos were non-existant, water level is down to normal pre-rainy season. A good time to see the glades.
