A beautiful morning in South Florida brought about a birder "fallout" over at A. D. Barnes today. At 6:30 AM, Roberto "Toe" Torres, Albert "El Gavilan" Gonzalez, and myself made our way into a still-dark park, only to see Kevin Sarsfield, Juan Villamil, Florida legend Paul Bithorn, and a fellow out-of-state birder, Kenn something, arrive immediately after. Soon to join us was none other than Larry "Cali-Boy" Wolski, with special guest appearances by Felipe Guajardo, Susan Schneider, and others including some I've met before. Oh yeah, the birds. The female Hooded Warbler was not relocated today but the female Wilson's Warbler was. THREE, yes folks THREE Swainson's Warblers were hanging out west of the nature trail boardwalk...Paul's group missed these. An FOS Louisiana Waterthrush. An FOS Yellow-billed Cuckoo gave us excellent looks and posed for Albert's camera. No Carolina Chickadee either. After we disbanded in the late morning, I had lunch with my wife and then proceeded to go to Arch Creek. Nothing there I hadn't already seen at Barnes. I called Bithorn who told me they were headed back to try for the Swainson's. Back to Barnes it was to help my fellow birders get a year bird. Unfortunately, we came up empty the second time around, but it seems Paul's group had success elsewhere and he will surely post their sightings later. Here's the list of notable birds my group saw:
Hermit Thrush
Louisiana Waterthrush
Swainson's Warbler (3)
Wilson's Warbler
Orange-crowned Warbler
Black-and-white Warbler
Palm Warbler
Northern Parula
Prairie Warbler
American Redstart
Yellow-throated Warbler
Red-eyed Vireo
Blue-headed Vireo
White-eyed Vireo
Brown Thrasher
Yellow-billed Cuckoo
Tufted Titmouse

Let's get out there folks!
Cheers,
RJ
