Ecology Day at Hoechoka Hammock (Parkland at Sawgrass & University Drive on the Mary Help of Christians Church campus)this coming Sunday, October 14, 2012 from 7:30 -2:00. Static displays by Busch Wildlife Center Palm Beach, Sawgrass Nature Center Coral Springs, and the Wild Bird Care Center of Ft. Lauderdale. 24 acres of 191 native plant species in a natural "Old Florida display", and native as well as exotic orchids. Petting zoo for the children and a falcon flight display. Bird the Hoechoka Hammock, (we could use the help from all you TASers with good eyesight, photograph the wood duck family members, and see the fish and turtle population of the SFWMD canal system up close. If you appreciate Native vegetation in a natural setting with a rich diversity you will enjoy this day. Over 191 species from seedlings to full maturity. A truly bold statement that the environment can be promoted and protected by private enterprise in the middle of urban Broward County. This is the result of 20 years of dedication in recreating a Florida Hammock on Miami Archdiocesan land and restoring the balance of nature in a specific limited area.
Best part? FREE. As in no admission cost.
