There's a beautiful rufous hummingbird here at the hacienda in Homestead that regularly visits the flowers of the exotic firebush (Hamelia patens var. glabra). There's several ruby-throats, too.
We also have butt-loads of warblers, vireos, tanagers, and an immature short-tailed hawk that terrorizes the blue jays and doves at a feeder. Parts of the yard look like there's been a pillow fight, what with all the piles of feathers.
We had a 4' arawana in our pool (that's an eel-like fish from the Amazon) until an osprey saw it. It sat up in a buttonwood and ate the $125 fish after plummeting straight down into the pool, talons first.
It's a jungle out there.
