At 3:00 p.m. this afternoon (10/5), Josh Friers located the White-cheeked Pintails (WHIPs) in the raised grassy interior of a wetland pond (not the canal pond area). A spotting scope was needed to view the WHIPs as they rested with other ducks in cover along the pond bank. I was observing the WHIPs with my spotting scope as a Bald Eagle flew overhead; the WHIPs were alert and skittish about the eagle, even while hunkered down in vegetation. The WHIPs were wary and behaved like wild birds. Thanks again Josh, for the opportunity to see these birds. John
