I received a phone call about 30 minutes ago from visiting Illinois birders who attended the TAS Matheson walk last Saturday. Well, they went back today and heard then saw a Slate-colored Junco. This area is actually across Old Cutler Road from Matheson and Fairchild. You have to head west on foot for a good hike through the hammock, and keep heading west along the path through the large, weedy open area until you reach the street at the end of the path. The birders from last weekends walk may remember this as the spot where I was the only one in the group to miss the Indigo Buntings.

Last Sunday, after seeing the Buff-bellied Hummingbird at Fairchild, I walked to this area to look for the buntings (saw two of em) and I thought I heard a cardinal giving the rapid "ti-ti-ti-ti" call a little off. Recalling experiences of juncos in the past in New York in the winter, I think I heard it. Good luck guys!
