Once again Green Cay was locked on Monday morning, same as Sunday (see post below) About 10 cars lined up at dawn all wondering what gives. So we started a phone campaign to Park and Recreation. Turns out that WPB Sheriff office has the duty to open Green Cay in the morning. And they just didn't do it. And P&R didn't know it wasn't being done.
So, if anyone goes there and the gate is locked during normal hours call the Sheriff office because the patrol unit has the key.
Normal hours are dawn to dusk, seven days a week.
By the way, we took some comfort in our wait that the entire maintenance crew was also waiting with us....and they get paid by the hour!
So, where are the birds? Well increasing numbers of stilts were seen and also seen doing what comes naturally so maybe we get some nests shortly. Greater and lesser yellowlegs were abundant, pectoral sandpipers were down to two. Killdeer about 12, swallows ---who can count? One only glossy ibis and three limkins.
The guys that stole the "late" show Sunday were the otters. Three of them, swimming next to the Nature Pavilion. The mottled ducks with the ducklings were a bit suspicious but the otter just caught and ate frogs.
