I don't know your location in south Florida. I had the same problem earlier this summer in Palm Beach county. Upon close observations of many swallow types on utility wires it is my opinion that out of all the swallows you might be seeing right now 60-70% of them will be Barn swallows. Bank, Cliff, Tree, Purple Martin, & cave are the rest. The Barn swallow i have observed are mostly young ones with some adults in the mix. It can be confusing but don't give up Tim!
