The day started with a calling Solitary Sandpiper that flew over the "dog park" area of Matheson Hammock County Park. After seeing the sheer number of dogs using the western section of the park, I walked towards the service road.
In the live oak that arches over the service road (around the 'greenhouse' structure and old coral rubble structures covered in vegetation), I had a scolding, hypactive BELL'S VIREO bouncing around all over the tree in lose association with a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher and a family of Northern Cardinals. The soft yellow undersides, robust bill and legs, and relatively long tail along with the call were diagnostic (and behavior). I made a futile attempt to take a photograph but was unsuccessful!
Elsewhere, the park was relatively birdy with a Veery on the service road, a Blackburnian Warbler in the picnic area parking lot (the one closer to Fairchild), a Swainson's Warbler on the nature trail, two Summer Tanagers (one service road, second in picnic area), and two Eastern Wood-Pewees (one in dog park area, the other in the picnic area). Birds seemed to be still coming in as I was leaving.
Migrant tally is as follows:
Short-tailed Hawk (dark morph)
