The wind shift Sunday night also brought some birds to Cape Florida. There were 46 Prairie Warblers along 1 survey route, along with 4 Yellow-throateds, 2 Ovenbirds, 12 Common Yellowthroats and 9 Northern Parulas. Also of interest: 2 Chuck-will's-widows, 2 Blue-headed Vireos, 3 Painted Buntings, White-crowned Pigeon and FOS Common Nighthawk. Raptors were represented by Peregrine Falcon, Merlin and 7 Broad-winged Hawks, including a kettle of 5 adults.
Offshore, flocks of night-herons, Great Egrets, Cattle Egrets and Great Blue Herons are heading north.
At Fairchild Gardens there is a small mixed flock near the hummer spot that is interesting: Northern Parula, Prairie, Red-eyed Vireo, Worm-eating, Northern Waterthrush and a dull Nashville. I wonder if the last 3 overwintered.
