My father's cat was personally responsible for several hundred California bird deaths. I'm sure some rare ones got mixed up in there. The cat got out through a patio roof gap and spent much of its day as a fat black lump of fur, lying perfectly still, under a particular tree frequented by birds. When the birds started to be inatentive and accustomed to the black blob, they'd head down to get a fallen seed or nut, and BLAM! The fat black blob would have another serving. The cat weighed 29Lbs despite being on a strict diet...they didn't understand why until they finally discovered the bird-eating addiction!
