I'll be visiting South Florida in mid- to late April and was planning a one-day Dry Tortugas jaunt from Key West. I'm partly interested in the trip for its pelagic opportunities, and I'm a little concerned about the fact that both the Yankee and Sunny Days boats go up to 30 nm, which I know from experience makes birding difficult.
I would much appreciate any advice on the relative merits of these boats in terms of pelagic birding. Is one boat more accommodating to birder's interests than the other? Are there any other one-day options?
I'm also looking for any advice on finding Short-tailed Hawk in South Florida at this time of year (except on the Gulf side).
Please respond directly to me rather than to the bulletin board.
Thanks much.
