Followed up Saturday's visit to Green Cay with an early morning visit since I had the day off. Got there at 8:15, and worked my way around. Nothing at the front entrance this time, a yellow-crowned night heron hanging at the alligator pond, and usual waders around the south side. Action started when I got to the chickee hut tree canopy area...just north of the chickee hut a large group of bird/photographers was staking out some ficus to the east, and like Saturday, this was a busy spot for migrators.
Spotted there were: worm-eating warbler, prothonotary warbler, yellow-throated warbler, magnolia warbler, ovenbird, red-eyed vireo, american redstart, northern parula, brown thrasher, red-bellied woodpecker, and blue-grey gnatcatcher. The other birders were there earlier than I and it sounded like they had seen a few more than I did...but this was just about 1 1/2 hours spent in that vicinity. Things quieted after a cooper's hawk flew in and spooked them for a bit - but the prothonotary and yellow-throated stayed out even with the hawk nearby.
Got much better shots of the prothonotary this time, and spotted my first magnolia warbler and red-eyed vireo, so well worth the morning visit.
