Busy day at Green Cay today - the migration has kicked into gear, and the warblers and other perchers are really starting to show up - amazing how different from just last Saturday. I saw many more than I managed to photograph, and had to run a few IDs through searching and bird forums to confirm as some were birds I've never seen before. Here's what I saw:
Near the chickee hut, in that tree canopy, I spotted prairie warblers (2), pine warblers (1), a prothonotary warbler (1), several black-and-white warblers (4), and worm-eating warblers (2). The prothonotary and worm-eating warblers were two I've never seen before, and I needed ID help on those two...great adding to the life list.
Moving around to the north side cypress tree canopy, I saw a palm warbler, american redstarts (2), and by my best guess, a swainson's warbler (having never seen one, I thought waterthrush at first, but the color was distinctly pale whitish bottom with brown uppers, no distinct wing pattern, a thin brown stripe going right into the eye, and a white stripe just above it, and the head seemed much narrower with a longer beak than most warblers - there was no distinct break from head to beak.
Finally, on heading back out of the park, the entrance tree canopy area was filled with perching birds. Black and white warblers (5+), northern parula (2), northern cardinals (5), palm warblers (3), prairie warbler (1), and one unidentified bird that I initially thought was a black-and-white but on closer view was lacking the distinct head stripes and bold contrast, yet seemed to have a somewhat similar wing pattern in black and white...the body seemed to possibly be a bit on the greenish grey side, with the belly not showing any distinct pattern or stripe. I didn't get a look at the top side of the bird.
