On Tuesday, August 28th we toured the northern end of Lake Okeechobee to view the impacts from Tropical Storm Isaac. As we were traveling south along the eastern edge of King's Bar, we passed a bird resting on floating, uprooted vegetation that was definitely out of place. When we circled back I could see it was a Juvenile Sooty Tern. The bird was obviously exhausted because it made no attempt to flee when we passed it the first time or when we circled back to it. I'm checking records and this could be a first for Okeechobee County.
