I'm working on documenting the bird-plant interactions on barry's campus and have been doing so for the past year. I've kept a journal, but there are a couple of entries that still stump me, so here they are verbatim, thanks for any help, I know they are a long shot, but I thought it would be worth a try on here.
2/4/04 9:00AM: "saw new bird in orchid trees...about 4" max,
buff/light colored brest, pale yellow throat, grey on top..." I
thought maybe Northern Parula, but for some reason I dismissed that.
2/6/04 2:00PM: "...saw other bird, no color when looking from below, was making a keee call; 'keee....keee....' was about 5-6" long, maybe more, long tail, like mocker, was moving very quickly in tall slash pine and jacaranda...flew off in flap-bounding manner...grey/pale tan breast, darker grey on top, long beak." This one really stumped me, unfortunately he was really quick, and the slash pine was at least 40'.
9/8/04: "...call was 'ee-dee-ah,' was a dark bird, with dark, almost black, grey or just black underbody, no markings on wings, but possible narrow white edge on tip of curved tail." With this one I'm sure I would know the call if I heard it again, it was so unique. He was hanging around in a couple of small oaks before he flew off, it was a relatively open area, no shrubbery, the only thing I could think of was a catbird, but I thought they preferred to be near water and in underbrush.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer, I appreciate it!
