Here is a little more information about the Crandon Gardens waterfowl. A women was given permission to bring into Crandon Gardens a variety of waterfowl. She felt she was doing a really good thing by bringing in all of these exotic waterfowl. There was a very large variety of species here at one time. The women has now been kicked out of Crandon Gardens for one reason or another and no longer brings in birds. I am not sure, but I believe she may have paid for these birds with her own money. There was quite an impressive list at one time. Most of these birds are gone now probably preyed upon by predators of one kind or another. There was an American Crocodile there that may have eaten a few. I have not seen the crocodile anymore so perhaps it moved on or was relocated. Or perhaps it is still there, I just have not seen it lately.

There still is a fairly large flock of Egyptian Geese present that are breeding like rats. I believe that many of these have flown to greener pastures. This will probably create more problems with our native species as they are really aggressive. Egyptian Geese are now pretty common in many of our lakes and canals. I believe many of these originated from Crandon Gardens. I know that the lady who brought all of these in may of had good intentions. It could prove to be another exotic that we will have to deal with. As if we don't already have enough exotics to worry about.
