The four wood ducks of Hoechoka Hammock are about to fly. They have matured now to the point where they show an aggressive attitude to the many mottled ducks and ibis at morning feeding. They also have a comfort level with people within 30-50 feet. They still are in the northeast corner of the area and continue to paddle around as a family group. Today the male joined in with the female but it spooks very easily. Ibis number about 25, an osprey is seen weekly and a red-shouldered hawk is omni-present.
These next few days could be the close of the photo-op for the wood ducks as the approaching storm may impact their presence.
