Just a quick update on some Broward birds and some sightings in ENP from yesterday...

The Groove-billed Ani was still present Sat 12th at Greenbelt Park along with the two Smooth-billed Anis. On this occasion they were feeding near the airport perimeter fence about 50 yards east of the parking lot in Greenbelt Park. The Blue-winged Warbler that wintered at Fern Forest has not been reported (as far as I know) since Leo Miller's sighting on 2/8. However a Nashville has been present there since 2/26. Both were seen from the Cypress Creek loop part of the boardwalk behind the nature center.

An early start in ENP on Sunday found a Barn Owl flying across the main park road, with Barred Owl and Great Horned Owl (distant) heard calling during a brief stop at Mahogany Hammock. Two Cape Sable Seaside Sparrow were seen and five heard from the main park road south of here. A Merlin, Baltimore Oriole and Cape May Warbler were the highlights at Flamingo. At the end of Research Rd, 3 Swallow-tailed Kites, 1 Red-tailed Hawk, 3 Cave Swallow (appeared to be Mexican race), 1 Sedge Wren and 1 Eastern Kingbird were observed. By the way, the female and male Vermilion Flycatchers are still present at Paurotis Pond and Greenway trail park (outside ENP) respectively.

Good Birding,

Mark Berney
