Good evening,
The 53rd supplement to the American Ornithologists' Union Check-list of North American Birds has now been web-published. All changes made by the AOU in taxonomy (species placement) and nomenclature (species names) are effective immediately and should be noted.
The following changes affect Florida birds:
Crested Caracara and the four falcons on the Florida list are moved to follow the woodpeckers;
All parrots are moved to follow caracara/falcons;
Common Peafowl is now Indian Peafowl;
The scientific name of Purple Gallinule is changed to Porphyrio martinicus;
The scientific name of Chuck-wiil's-widow is changed to Antrostomus carolinensis;
The scientific name of Eastern Whip-poor-will is changed to Antrostomus vociferus;
The scientific name of Calliope Hummingbird is changed to Selasphorus calliope;
The scientific name of Purple Finch is changed to Haemorhous purpureus;
The scientific name of House Finch is changed to Haemorhous mexicanus;
Best regards,
Bill Pranty
