I spent the morning visiting a few areas in the Big Cypress National Preserve in search of my Bird-A-Day, namely Kirby Storter Boardwalk and Loop Road. The best birds seen were a pair of Sandhill Cranes at the Loop Road Environmental Education Center near Pinecrest, Monroe County -- a new county record for this species for me -- and calling Yellow-billed Cuckoo also in Monroe County. Other species seen of lesser note were Northern Parula, Common Yellowthroat, White-eyed Vireo, Eastern Meadowlark, Northern Flicker, Barn Swallow, Red-winged Blackbird and other common species.
