Late this afternoon after a Birding Festival meeting at fairchild I received a phone call from Rafael, he spotted a Cuban Grassquit. I rushed over and heard the bird singing even before spotting Rafael. We got great views of the bird and followed the bird as it moved through a gumbo limbo and over to an isolated stand of trees and into the high grass. The bird was in good shape with no apparent wear. It is a beautiful male with crisp plumage. The bird was seen at the end of the service road in the grassy area just to the right as you exit the hammock. This could be the same bird seen in June by Bill & Nancy LaFramboise. This bird seemed to be quite comfortable in the local environment. I am going to have to keep a eye out for the Cuban Bulfinch that I spotted a number of months ago in my mother-in-law's home .
