This morning, right before the butterfly garden at AD Barnes, I saw a small bird flit across the path just behind me, so I went to investigate. A few minutes of watching in the brush turned it up... not the ovenbird I had been expected, but a Swainson's Warbler! What a treat! Not only a life bird, but a complete surprise... I had read that Swainson's Warblers were early migrants, but I wasn't expecting to see one on March 1st! Is this unusual? As I watched it forage through the litter, I noticed it was vibrating its tail. Has anybody else seen Swainson's warblers doing this? At one point it came so close that I couldn't focus my binoculars on it... very cool!
