The birds traffic the area from the east canal to the north canal (often better reached by the pump lift station off of University Drive. They are very wary but do come to the feeding station along the "trail". Look for the sign saying "fish bowl". The water is high and the ducklings often sit in the flooded grassline with mom patrolling (and looking very much like a smallish mottled duck) a short distance away. When spooked the babies run along the water much like coots do. They still can't fly but they flap and run on the surface of the water. Up by the lift station there are many water hyacinths and when the babies get in there they have perfect cover. More mottled ducks and ibis are coming in every day and that seems to be making the wood ducks more wary. Whole lot of pecking going on! Hope you have success. I'll be there Wednesday morning+/- 7:15.
