I spent an hour or so at Eagle lakes Community Park in Naples. I first visited the impoundment that is best accessed through the Whistler's Cove Apartments. As I exited my car, I was greeted by a pair of Eastern Bluebirds who appeared to be looking for a nesting location. That was good news, since I haven't seen EABLs at Eagle Lakes in well over a year. Also present in the Slash Pines nearby were a small flock of Pine Warblers. The usual Yellow-rumped & Palm Warblers, Red-headed Woodpeckers, Fish Crows and grackles were also about.

The Eurasian Wigeons were right where they were supposed to be at the north end of the impoundment along with their American cousins. Other ducks present were Mottled, Northern Shoveler & Blue-winged Teal. No Wood Ducks. Soon I was joined by Naples birders Henry & Weslyn Strickland. All got good looks at the wigeon and various waders, raptors, etc.

Weslyn & I found a Blue-headed Vireo in the pines where the warblers and bluebirds were being seen. This is a first for me for Eagle Lakes Community Park and I don't see this species listed on the outdated pdf copy of the park checklist that I have. . . .

Afterward, I drove to the main impoundment and headed for the gazebo, running into a group of East Coast birders who also saw the Eurasian Wigeons. They arrived too late in the morning to see the Yellow-headed Blackbirds at Greenway Rd. I also asked them if they had seeen the Bronzed Cowbirds at Eagle Lakes. Negative. Soon after they left, I found three Bronzed Cowbirds in the Carolina Willows to the right of the gazebo. They were in a mixed flock of Boat-tailed Grackles and Red-winged Blackbirds. The Bronzed Cowbirds stay well hidden in the willows during the heat of the day and patience is required to pick them out.
