Thanks to some keen observations by Alan Murray and especially Monica Higgins, I was able to locate a Rose-ringed Parakeet roost of some 50-60 birds at the intersection of 15th Street South and Gulf Shore Blvd. here in Naples. The birds were observed from 6:30PM-7:00PM. There were juvenile birds among the adults indicating that these birds are breeding. The parakeets were frequenting the Royal Palms on the southeast corner and other areas of this intersection. They were also eating the fruiting Ficus fruits on the northwest corner of the intersection. Monica said she saw some of these same birds on the golf course in the Lakewood subdivision off of US41 earlier in the day. In the past, a few birds have been seen at nearby Sugden Regional Park as well as the Collier County Government Center. This is the most Rose-ringed Parakeets I have seen in Naples since the hurricanes of 2004 . . . .
