I just wanted to thank Jeff Weber for a great day birding in the Everglades National Park. He guided seven of us to some of your (TAS) favorite spots with good results. I have been going down into the Everglades all winter seeing basically the same things over and over again. (Blue Herons, Snowy Egrets, Green Herons, Anhinga, Cormorants, Red Shouldered Hawks, Yellow Tails, Cat Birds, etc ) That s been nice, but I knew that I must be missing a lot.
Today I was able to see several birds new to me since moving to Florida.
Cedar Waxwings
Caspian Tern
Black Skimmer
Short-tailed Hawk
Bald Eagle (immature)
White-crowned Pigeon
Northern Flicker
Vermilion Flycatcher (Female, not positive since I spotted this one by my self on the fence where I was told to look on my way out of the park)
A variety of Warblers
I am originally from Southeastern Texas and haven t done much birding since moving to Florida, 15 years ago.
Thanks Jeff, I expect I ll see you on the trail occasionally since I will be birding more often after my encouraging experience today.
Thanks,
Trey Mitchell
