Between errands, I had two opportunities to do some birding today around suburban Miami.
Early in the morning, I had a lot of bird activity between the traffic circle and the swimming pool at the University of Miami. Notable sightings included two Spot-breasted Orioles (leaf bathing between showers), seven Hill Mynas, a single Scaly-headed Parrot, and a mixed flock of Monk and Red-masked Parakeets. All of these birds were attracted to the fruit of introduced Black Olive Trees. A pair of Gray Kingbirds were actively defending the area around the swimming pool proper.
A.D. Barnes Park was much quieter, although signs of fall migration are peaking through -- a single Red-eyed Vireo and three Black-and-white Warblers. Neotropical migrant passerines are on the move once again.
