I saw a mangrove cuckoo yesterday just past noon in our Cape Cutler neighborhood 1 mile south of Sadowski Park. It was perched about 25 ft up in an Indian rosewood (Dalbergia) tree in the swale of the intersection of 181st Terrace and 77th Ave. It flew off toward a thicket of trees at 182nd Terrace and the south end of 77th Ave. This is inside the neighborhood, just W. of Old Cutler Rd and N. of 184th Street. Then I noticed a large nest of leaves and twigs approximately 30 ft high in the tree -- not sure who "owns" this nest. I've heard the cuckoo calling for a few days, and heard it again this morning but have only seen it once.
