Regarding the dark morph Short-tailed Hawk seen at Long Key State Park on March 4 (and previously), I forgot to mention that when I last saw it, it was being given a hard time by a pair of ospreys apparently nesting (or preparing to) in the vicinity.

: Dave and Mandy,
: A solitary dark-phase Short-tailed Hawk had eben hanging around, often seen hunting, over hte nature trail at Long Key State Park in January and February. I saw it there again on March 4th. Good waders can be seen from the trails boardwalk and shoreline as well.
: I don't usually hear or see Mangrove Cuckoos in Key Largo before early April, but I also don't usually look too hard. They become pretty conspicuous here at Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park about the same time as the Black-whiskered Vireos, Gray Kingbirds and Great Crested Flycatchers.
: Check with park biologist at Pennekamp for updates from the more diligent birding tourists who fill me in as they pass through the park.
