Drove back from Orlando on Monday and took the back roads from St. Cloud to Yeehaw Junction. This is part of the Florida Birding Trail. Map 18 of the East Section. Traveled down Joe Overstreet Rd to Lake Kissimme. Many Bald Eagles, meadowlarks, Crested Caracas, Snail Kites and a solitary Whooping crane was with a large group of Sandhills at the end of the road south of the boat ramp area.
Also drove the 5 mile loop thru 3 lakes wildlife management area. This was a magical place to bird. We saw only one other car. You need to check ahead here for it's hunting season. Saw more warblers than i could identify, a barred owl, eastern bluebird, Eastern Towhee, hawks, and heard the tapping of the red cockaded woodpecker but wasn't able to see it. After leaving we saw groups of Wild turkeys in the fields just west of Kenansville. All in all a great way to drive back from Orlando.
