On Saturday, February 12th, I drove to Greenway and Fritchey roads for late afternoon birding. I spotted two Yellow-headed Blackbirds among a large flock of Red-winged Blackbirds/Brown-headed Cowbirds roosting on trees lining the fields of Rogers' vegetable farms. At times, they would also perch on the wires along these farm fields and the ones along Ladybug Farms. When they weren't perched on trees or wires, they were foraging on the fields. I noticed a female and a male and took pictures of both while perched on the trees. I sent John Boyd two pics of a male; hopefully they can be posted. I also have some decent ones of a female which I'll be glad to email to anyone upon request. As I viewed these birds, I also had to pay special attention to a barking and growling mutt at my side. As I looked through my scope, I waived my big heavy-duty flashlight at the dog to keep him at bay. I really think the mutt just wanted some attention, but I wasn't taking any chances. So if anyone goes to look for these birds, be careful, there were other loose dogs in the area. I also got to see the adult Great Horned Owl and its two fledgelings. A male Northern Harrier harassed Mama Owl a bit as she perched on a snag, but not for long...he knew better.

Cheers,
RJ
