A multitude of birders pitched in this month to give Miami-Dade a record breaking year in the June Challenge -- 181 total species were recorded, including 166 ABA-countable species and 15 non-countable species. By birding in June, we have added a wealth of knowledge to birds in Miami-Dade as well as represent ourselves well in the statewide contest. I would like to give a special thanks to every birder who bravely faced the heat, humidity, and biting insects to make our effort a great success.

There were many highlights this month, and many reports came as a shock. Here is a sampling of our findings:

Gadwall
American Flamingo
Great Shearwater
Masked Booby
Great Cormorant
Northern Harrier
Gull-billed Tern
Roseate Tern
Common Tern
Antillean Nighthawk
Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Gray Catbird
Palm Warbler
Painted Bunting
Indigo Bunting
Bobolink

Finally, I would like to extend a thanks to the organizers of the June Challenge for this event.

GO MIAMI-DADE!!!

Carlos
