Arthur Wilson sends along these pix of the Yellow-headed Blackbirds that have been present on Greenway Rd. in Naples for more than a week now. Thanks Art! The photos were taken yesterday, 02/10/2005. One bird was originally found by Alan Murray last Saturday. He and I found two more the following day. I believe that the pix represent adult females but I could be wrong. There are at least three YHBLs at this site, possibly more. Go to:

The location for these birds is at Ladybug Farms, which is at the end of Greenway Rd. where the pavement ends and the dirt road begins. The birds are associating with a large flock (200+) of Red-winged Blackbirds & Brown-headed Cowbirds on the telephone lines along the canal at this site. It is best to get to the location early (8:00-8:30AM) as the birds disperse to feed.
Arthur Wilson relates that he and his wife saw three Scissor-tailed Flycathers further down the dirt road (past Ladybug Farms) yesterday. The Broad-winged Hawk and White-winged Dove have been in the same area as well. The Western Kingbird continues near the Greenway and Cecil Road intersection. The Black-chinned Hummingbird on Laredo Street (after Fritchey Rd. makes its sharp turn to the north) has not been relocated of late. The powderpuffs on the Powderpuff Tree have pretty much gone to seed. . . . The Great Horned Owl nest is still active but the two owlets are about ready to 'fly the coop'.
The Greenway-Fritchey Rd. area is well worth a stop if you are birding Collier County. For a map of this area, go to:

Lastly, the Caloosa website seems to be a clearinghouse for Caloosa Bird Club members photos of uncommon or rare birds for our area. Here is the URL for the female Rose-breasted Grosbeak that was coming to Leon & Lois White's feeders in Alva, (Lee County) for a few days in the third week of January. The bird has not been seen since I believe. Thanks Leon for the photo! To see it, go to:
