"Three" was the operative number this morning. . . . From about 8:30-8:45AM, Alan Murray and I saw three Yellow-headed Blackbirds at Ladybug Farms at the end of Greenway Rd. The birds were associating with a large flock (200+) of Red-winged Blackbirds & Brown-headed Cowbirds on the telephone lines along the canal at this site. There are two 1st winter males and one adult female YHBL on the telephone lines. At around 8:45AM, the entire flock of blackbirds flew into the adjacent corn field to feed. Thus, it is best to get to this location early (or perhaps late in the day) if you want to see these birds. They were relatively easy to pick out of the mixed flock. Also in the field were three Sandhill Cranes. A little further down Greenway (going back toward US Rte. 41), just before Fritchey Rd., there were three Great Horned Owls (one adult and two nearly-fledged young) on their nest.

I later met Lea Brennan and friend on Fritchey Rd. where we saw a subadult Bald Eagle, the usual waders, including several Wood Storks, etc. and a Northern Harrier. Alan Murray told me he had seen fly-over Roseate Spoonbills there earlier in the morning as well as the Western Kingbird near the intersection of Cecil Rd. & Greenway.

Time did not permit me to look for White-winged Dove (recently reported from the area) nor the Black-chinned Hummingbird, which according to Alan, has been seen recently.
