I visited Cutler Wetlands and Black Point Marina area this morning about 0830-0945. The area was quite flooded and the Black-necked Stilts follwed me as I walked down the road with their cries of alarm. As I walked toward the dump two dark terns flew together over and in front of me. They were quite small, not much bigger than the Least Tern I had just seen. The most obvious feature that stood out to me was how dark they were. My view was mostly of them flying away from me. One turned its head so that I could clearly see the head/neck features. A white collar stood out formed by dark patches in the auricular area and a dark area by the base of the neck near the insertion of the wing. The wings were gray/the bill black/small. A friend played the tape of the Black Tern's call which were short notes/high pitch--what I heard was a long note cry of high pitch. I also saw a Clapper Rail fly off that had been standing on the road at the entrance of Black Point Marina as I drove down Southwest 248th Street. There is a diagonal road to the right that has a No Tresspassing sign and is lined on either side with Mangrove Trees. The Clapper Rail flew soon as it saw my car. Many Blue Crabs of various sizes were in the road and surrounding area. Upon entering the parking lot along the area that leads to the jetty I heard the Pileated Woodpecker. After returning home I looked at the birdboard and saw the entry to be on the look out for Black Terns.
