We saw Toe's Terns too ;)  Now say that three times, fast!  Before checking out the lake we had stopped by Cutler Wetlands and watched 4 Blue-winged Teal which was an addition for the June Challenge. Also of note were two Least Bittern which we have seen on our last three trips to the wetlands. Yesterday they flew across the wetlands and landed in the open along the edge of the vegetation. We feel that they may be breeding at this location, lots of vocalizations as well as what could have been copulation. At one point it seemed as if one bittern had mounted the other, shortly after the action, they flew back into the cover of the vegetation.

Toe gave us a tip on a flooded field with lots of Laughing Gull which looks prime for shorebirds and Black Tern.  We saw a few peeps fly in behind the gulls but with no scope we could not ID them. Someone should go scope the field for something good. This field is located on 256 & 107 ave. just before you reach the quarry lake.  The field should remain flooded with all this rain, Trey go find a Black Tern for the challenge :)  Many of the fields from Cutler Bay to 9336 were flooded yesterday.  Get out and look!

At ENP some night cruising yielded many Barn Owls and Common Nighthawks. We had some Great-horned Owlets and many many frogs!  On Research Road we were treated to some awesome nighthawk behavior.  We rolled up on a Common Nighthawk on the road and watched it walk around picking off insects from the road. First time we have seen such behavior, the nighthawk looked more like a pigeon than a nightjar.  Super cool stuff, we even captured a bit of this behavior with a digibinn set-up.

Nature is Awesome
