Look at the migration patterns of these birds. Remember the banded Manx that was 55 years old and had flown an estimated 5 million miles!According to a rehab facility on the Outer Banks of NC:
In the summer, shearwaters are received into rehabilitation. Some years there may be a fall-out of juveniles, primarily males. Studies by the University of Wisconsin and UG indicate young birds overextend themselves, stray from the flock and lack the fishing skills needed for independence.
