Flight pattern is pretty diagnostic under normal conditions, but with strong winds may be a little more difficult to discern. We had the three species in our chum on the 9th, and the difference in flight was very apparent. Wilson's flutter around like butterflies poking their feet in the water, Band-rumped fly like a shearwater with long glides and few shallow wingbeats, and Leach's fly like a Nighthawk. If I didn't know better, I'd swear they were related to nighthawks.
