American crow is extremely rare in Palm Beach County, for some reason. Many birders are unaware of this fact and unaware of the complexity of calls Fish crows are capable of uttering. Most or all of the American crows identified in Palm Beach County are probably mis-identified Fish crows. Florida's first Breeding Bird Atlas accurately shows the range of Fish Crows in Palm Beach, Broward, and Dade Counties (absent in Palm Beach, barely in the western parts of Broward and Everglades NP in Dade County) while grossly misrepresenting the range in the counties to the north (Martin, St. Lucie, and Indian River where they only occur in the western parts of the county.) I have included a link to a website that is very informative about the range of calls in both Fish and American crows. The calls are recorded in New Jersey, but they are applicable to Florida.
