There was a male Wilson’s Warbler on the nature trail in the southeast corner of Markham
Park this morning. It was with a flock of mostly Yellow-rumped and Palm Warblers. On
the other side of the levee in WCA 2B several Purple Swamphens showed themselves by
making short flights above the Spikerush while more could be heard calling from the
marsh. There were also a couple of Snail Kites about a half mile west of the levee access
point. This is encouraging since the kites have only been scarce here since this area dried
up late last spring.

The Ospreys that nested last year on the lights over the soccer fields near the northwest
corner of the Weston community park at the west end of Saddle Club Road are back, they
are the first Ospreys to nest in east Broward County in recent history. It looks like the
female is either incubating eggs or brooding young chicks while the male brings her food.

The Bonaparte’s Gull that showed up at the lake at TY Park has been a daily visitor, it
usually arrives by late morning and remains until at least mid-afternoon. It sometimes
associates with the Ring-billed Gulls but also spends a good deal of time on it’s own out
on the lake.
