Backyard birding is great; I now have a family of N. Cardinals----the two adult parents and their offspring; a female and male both with black beaks. Sometimes they all come together and the parents are still feeding them. The juvenile male is molting to to bright red and patches of red beak are now appearing. Cool! I hope the stray cats don't get them. I found a young male N. Cardinal dead in my yard last year/most likely the result of a cat attack.
