Visiting birders Will, Mary, Ben, and Jenny joined Paul Life is Good Bithorn and me on an afternoon pelagic today. We left Crandon Marina at noon and headed out for Fowey Rocks Lighthouse and beyond. The NOAA website was showing the west wall of the Gulfstream 17 miles off Fowey, and as expected we didn't get our first birds until we were out near that area. After only seeing a couple of Bridled Terns and one Sooty, we put out a chum slick and soon had a Band-rumped Storm-Petrel, then another, then a Wilson's, and another, and then a Leach's Storm-Petrel joined the mix. We had all three Storm-Petrels feeding in the chum at the same time.

We had distant looks at a Brown Noddy while drifting, but later found one on a log. There were 2-3 Cory's Shearwaters in this area as well, along with Bridled Terns and another Wilson's Storm-Petrel. On the way in close to Fowey we added an Audubon's Shearwater. Numbers were low due to the odd water conditions, but we had nice variety and a very good time was had by all. Thanks to Paul B. and the gang for making this trip happen.

The list:

Cory's Shearwater 4
Audubon's Shearwater 1
Wilson's Storm-Petrel 3
Band-rumped Storm-Petrel 4
Leach's Storm-Petrel 1
Brown Booby 10
Brown Noddy 2
Sooty Tern 1
Bridled Tern 20
