I stopped at Wakodahatchee again on my way home friday, and what was sitting right out in the open next near the entrance? A least bittern! I couldn't have asked for a better look... it was practically in my face, just glowing in the late afternoon sun. I watched as it caught fish after fish, seemingly oblivious to all the people walking by. I also had a very cooperative Wilson's snipe foraging out on a mat of dead vegetation.
I was going to post a list of everything I saw at Archbold this weekend but I left my list at home (where I don't have internet). Here are the highlights:
Crested Caracara
Northern Bobwhite flock
Florida Scrub Jay (obviously, but they're so neat)
7 woodpecker species including Hairy
Eastern Screech Owl and Barred Owl (both actual sightings, not just calls)
