Birded both Saturday and Sunday morning in search of birds, in South Florida, in June... and there were birds!:
02 June:
A late start at Black Point Marina did not turn up anything of note except for a flyover flock of 20 Black-necked Stilts and a Pied-billed Grebe.
Cutler Wetlands had the usual assortment of waders (including Wood Storks), plus only a single shorebird species (Black-necked Stilt). A lone, lingering American White Pelican was still hanging around.
03 June:
An earlier start at the Chekika Unit of Everglades National Park was very productive, turning up expected breeders such as White-eyed Vireo, Great Crested Flycatcher, and Eastern Kingbird. A Barn Owl and a Barred Owl (which perched on top of my Mini-Cooper!) were pleasant, memorable surprises. Even stranger was a very late migrant Palm Warbler and a Painted Bunting with no tail and an apparent gape line (both well photographed).
Get out there and bird!
Carlos
