Toe, Pete and I had a great morning birding Royal Palm, Research Road and Long Pine Key picnic area. In spite of short time and few locations, we had 78 species including 14 warbler species.
Best bird of the morning was a Brown-crested Flycatcher in Moser Hammock (walking trail at LPK picnic area). It called from the hammock area where it was briefly seen. Later, it was with 2 Great Crested Flycatchers in the pinelands across from the first restroom.
Other birds of interest: American Bittern, White-tailed Kite (harassed by Merlin), Short-tailed Hawk (3), Eastern Screech-Owl (2), Lesser Nighthawk (2 on Research Rd.), Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, Hermit Thrush (2), American Robin (400+), Cedar Waxwing, Savannah, Swamp & Grasshopper Sparrows and American Goldfinch.
Warbler species included: Orange-crowned, Black-throated Blue, Black-throated Green, Worm-eating, Northern Waterthrush (3) and Louisiana Waterthrush. We had killer looks at the Louisiana's "classic" field marks with bonus vocalizations.
