As I finished my yard work just afte sunset, I had a large bat, much larger than the little ones I usually see, fly overhead. It had a steady, deep wingbeat and pretty level flight as it slowly flew towards the northwest. It was about 3/4 the size of a nighthawk. Based on size alone, the only Florida species that matches would be the Florida Bonneted Bat. Is there any other southern species this size that would occur here?
