After a three week absence (which is the norm in this area for the last 23 years) the blue jays have returned in the same numbers and probably the same birds as certain ones have tricks they use when raiding peanuts from my garage. I calculate the same trick---the same bird.

North of Coral Springs in Parkland, at Hoechoka Hammock, the jays are also back but very quiet...not raucous at all.

Painted buntings are also increasing in number and today I saw a ruby throated hummer feeding on a Hamelia flower.

Robins mill around overhead and swarm to Brazillian Pepper trees.

A northern Harrier is also out-and-about at Hoechoka Hammock and often rests on the light poles along the Sawgrass-University exit.
