I was racing my sailboat last week in the Orange Bowl regatta off Coconut Grove and one day (Dec 29, I think) a gull flew by about 50 feet away, with the wing pattern of Bonapartes/Black-headed. I spaced on noticing whether the primaries were light or dark underneath, and I was mostly looking at its back anyways, as it went away from me. I'm leaning towards black-headed as it was beating strongly into a 20-22 knot breeze, and didn't seem at all fluttery or ternlike. This is useless in a 'hey, go find it' way since it was just flying along over Biscayne Bay and Lord only knows where it went, but keep your eyes out! I'm also wondering how common Bonaparte's gulls are down here; I don't think I have ever seen one in South Florida.
