First, I hope all of you mothers are having a good day! I spent a few hours this morning surveying some fairly local shorebird "hot spots" in nearby Lee County and found 18 species of shorebirds including White-rumped & Semipalmated Sandpipers, Whimbrel, American Oystercatcher, Marbled Godwit and others. I could have easily broken the 20 species mark had I made the effort, but I basically was just trying for my Bird-A-Day. Here's what I saw:
Dog Beach at New Pass, Fort Myers Beach:
*WHIMBREL
*Red Knot
Willet
Ruddy Turnstone
Dunlin
Sanderlng
Black-bellied Plover
Semipalmated Plover
Wilson's Plover
San Carlos Bay Bunche Beach Preserve off of John Morris Rd., Fort Myers:
Black-bellied Plover
Semipalmated Plover
Wilson's Plover
American Oystercatcher

*SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER

Least Sandpiper
Dunlin
Short-billed Dowitcher
Also seen at Bunche Beach were an adult Bald Eagle, Prairie Warbler (singing), nesting Osprey & Northern Cardinals. No sign of the recent Surf Scoter by me.
Lovers Key/Big Carlos Pass/Island's End Condominiums, Ft. Myers Beach
